Wike Reaffirms Commitment to Modernizing Abuja Master Plan with JICA

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has reiterated the commitment of the FCT Administration to the revision and modernization of the Abuja Master Plan. This declaration was made during a visit from a delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Abuja on Tuesday.

Wike announced that JICA would collaborate with the project team to review and upgrade the integrated urban development master plan for Abuja. “For us, be assured that it is a project that we are committed to, and we will do all we can to see that the project comes to fruition,” he stated.

The minister assured the JICA delegation that the project would be implemented in a timely manner and that all Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) requirements would be met. He also guaranteed stronger cooperation for the development of the FCT, including satellite towns and surrounding areas.

Additionally, Mr. Shehu Ahmad, Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), emphasized the need to address current issues in the nation's capital through a revision of the 45-year-old Abuja Master Plan. “We are talking about supporting facilities in terms of infrastructure, water supply, power supply, and stormwater and wastewater drainage systems,” he explained.

Ahmad also highlighted the vision for a smart city in Abuja, aiming to position the city among the top cities in the world. He noted, “Urban mobility has remained a challenge, and we are feeling that they should look into those areas to enhance it.”
