Anambra Governor Soludo Yet to Declare Re-election Bid, Says State Commissioner

The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, has clarified that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has not yet declared his intention to run for re-election. Despite widespread speculation, Mefor stated that the governor has not made any formal announcement about seeking a second term in office.

In a statement made during a press briefing on Wednesday, Mefor addressed the rumours, emphasizing that Soludo's focus is on his current duties and not on re-election. However, he hinted that the governor's impressive performance might ultimately prompt him to seek another term.

“Soludo has not declared intention to contest for a second term. He is too busy putting policies in place to develop the state,” Mefor explained. He further added, “I’m one of those that will persuade him to run, and if he does, I will ensure that he wins. He has shown himself to be what Anambra people want.”

Mefor also pointed out that zoning arrangements within the state, particularly favouring candidates from Anambra South, benefit Soludo. He noted that under the state's zoning formula, incumbents are typically entitled to a second term.

"If Soludo contests, I’m sure he will win because he won’t be making promises but rather showing what he has achieved," he continued. Mefor stressed that Soludo's track record and tangible accomplishments would make it difficult for challengers to defeat him in a future election.

“Those who contested against him when he was not yet governor and lost will likely face the same outcome now that he has a proven track record. Soludo's achievements in Anambra are verifiable and tangible, and all he needs to do is present his scorecard to win a second term,” Mefor concluded.
