Asari Dokubo Accuses Nigerian Military of Oil Bunkering, Claims President Tinubu Asked Him to Speak Out
Former rebel commander Asari Dokubo has once again accused members of the Nigerian Army of being involved in oil bunkering in the Niger Delta. He alleged that President Bola Tinubu instructed him to speak to the media about the issue, during which he accused soldiers of engaging in illegal oil activities.
Asari first made similar claims in June, asserting that the Nigerian Army and Navy were largely responsible for the oil theft occurring in the region. His recent remarks came after a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he discussed the situation with reporters.
"The military is at the centre of oil theft, and we have to make this very clear to the Nigerian public that 99 percent of oil theft can be traced to the Nigerian military, especially the Army and Navy," Asari declared.
In his latest video, the former militant leader further distanced ethnic groups in the Niger Delta from involvement in oil bunkering. "It’s not the Ijaw, Ikwerre, or Ogoni boys who are carrying out the bunkering," he stated. "It’s the people in the military who pay them to do it, collect their share, and give the boys peanuts. Everyone knows this, but because we are afraid of a coup, they are keeping quiet."
