Attempted Robbery in Awka Ends with One Suspect Shot Dead by Security Guard

An attempted armed robbery in the Ifite area of Awka ended with one of the suspects being shot dead by a local security guard. The incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Sunday, as some residents were leaving for Sunday Mass.

One of the victims, an employee at a popular restaurant in Awka, recounted the harrowing experience. She explained that three armed men approached her and another woman who had just exited a nearby lodge. "I was coming back from work, and another girl who was going to church came out of her lodge gate when the three men approached us and started asking what we had in our bags," she said.

The woman heading to church quickly threw her bag into the bushes, prompting the robbers to search the restaurant worker's belongings, where they found a phone and some money. While the two women fled in opposite directions—one towards her lodge and the other towards the bush—the robbers pursued them.

As the chaos unfolded, the restaurant worker hid in the bushes, and one of the assailants attempted to locate her. A local security guard arrived at the scene and, in an effort to protect the victims, shot the suspect, killing him. The other two robbers managed to escape.
