Court Denies PDP Faction's Request to Hold NEC Meeting Amid Leadership Dispute
A faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), backed by Governor Bala Mohammed, has been denied an ex parte order by a Federal High Court in Zamfara State to hold the party's National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. This development occurred amid escalating factional conflicts within the party.
The group, led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, had petitioned the court to grant them permission to convene the NEC meeting. However, Justice Salim Ibrahim rejected their request, delivering a ruling that marked a setback for the faction.Previously, Mohammed and some other PDP governors attempted to oust Amb. Umar Damagum from his role as acting national chairman, a move opposed by supporters of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike. This division further deepened the party’s internal crisis.
Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Abuja issued an order preventing the PDP from removing Damagum. Despite this, the group loyal to Governor Mohammed filed their lawsuit in Zamfara State's Federal High Court, seeking judicial support for their actions.
