First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Urges Religious Leaders to Promote Peace and Pray for Government at ABLI Conference

On Monday, October 21, Nigeria's First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, urged religious leaders to prioritize praying for and advising all levels of government, rather than cursing them. Her remarks were delivered at the opening ceremony of the four-day African Biblical Leadership Initiative (ABLI) International Conference in Abuja.

The conference, attended by global Christian leaders, including participants from Africa and Europe, focused on the theme "Value-based Leadership Model for Africa." The First Lady, represented by Princess Gloria Akobundu, National Coordinator and CEO of the New Partnership for Africa's Development, addressed the challenges faced by leaders in Africa today.

Remi Tinubu called on religious leaders to foster peace and development by teaching Christ-like values and praying for those in authority. She stated, "To our spiritual fathers, I urge you to build and foster peace and development as well as to pray for the government. Let us not curse, insult, or castigate the government. Rather, speak the truth to the leaders and the conscience of our citizens."

She emphasized that religious leaders should not equate themselves to God, reminding them that "God can use anybody to achieve His purpose and fulfill His agenda here on earth." The First Lady highlighted Africa's current crossroads, marked by numerous challenges that demand effective leadership. She called for a leadership model based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, built on justice, integrity, wisdom, and social harmony.
