Former Minister Chibuike Amaechi Criticizes Nigerians for Lack of Protest Amid Economic Crisis

Chibuike Amaechi, former Minister of Transport and ex-governor of Rivers State has voiced his disappointment with how Nigerians are reacting to the country’s current economic challenges. Amaechi expressed his concerns during an interview with Igbere TV, where he criticized the seeming lack of urgency among the youth in addressing the high cost of living.

Amaechi noted that he had expected young people to take to the streets in protest of the worsening economic situation, but he has seen little sign of widespread seriousness in this regard.

“People should be angry because you cannot see a group of people stealing your money without doing anything. I am really angry with the citizens because they are not doing anything,” Amaechi said.

He further referenced the situation in Edo State, questioning whether politicians should even be campaigning there, given the economic hardships. The former minister also touched on the rising cost of diesel, adding, “Some of us cannot afford to buy diesel again because it’s costly.”

Amaechi served as Minister of Transportation for nearly eight years under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
