IGP Egbetokun Calls for Strict Oversight Amid Reports of Police Misconduct

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has expressed concerns over reports of extortion and overbearing behavior by certain Nigeria Police Force personnel. These concerns were voiced during the IGP's Conference with Senior Police Officers held in Abuja, where commissioners of police, assistant inspectors general of police, and other senior officials were present.

In his speech, the IGP urged senior officers to ensure proper supervision of police personnel at all levels. He emphasized the need for officers to exhibit the highest standards of professionalism, especially when carrying out official duties.

The IGP also mandated that the IGP X-Squad, Monitoring Unit, Complaint Response Unit (CRU), and other disciplinary units regularly monitor officers’ conduct. Furthermore, he issued a stern warning to law enforcement officials against using his name to extort money from unsuspecting civilians.
