Man Arrested in Northern Cape on Charges of Child Abuse and Murder in Death of Stepson

Jeremy Bosman, 29, has been arrested and charged with the murder of his three-year-old stepson, Charvandre Kieran Everson. Authorities allege the incident was sparked by the toddler’s bedwetting, which reportedly led to a violent response from Bosman.

According to Mojalefa Senokoatsane, spokesperson for the Northern Cape's National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the alleged abuse occurred on October 19. Witnesses and initial investigations suggest that Bosman responded to Charvandre's bedwetting by striking him repeatedly. Following a second similar incident, Charvandre’s condition worsened significantly, leaving him weakened and unable to move normally. Bosman allegedly instructed the child’s mother to stay silent, but when Charvandre was later taken to De Aar New Hospital, medical personnel found that he had succumbed to his injuries.

Upon discovering extensive injuries on Charvandre’s body, hospital staff alerted law enforcement, leading to Bosman’s arrest. He now faces charges of assault and murder, with further investigation ongoing. Bosman is set to appear in court on November 1, where he will submit a formal bail application. Given the gravity of the charges, the NPA has indicated its intent to oppose bail.

Senokoatsane highlighted the case’s significance as a matter of child protection, noting the prosecution’s commitment to ensuring justice in instances of child abuse and domestic violence.
