NDLEA Clarifies Rumours on Visa Clearance for Married Women

The Nigeria Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has addressed rumours regarding its visa clearance process, specifically the claim that married women must provide a letter of authorization from their husbands to travel.

Rumours had circulated on social media, suggesting that married women seeking clearance were required to submit a photo of their spouse as part of the process. However, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, issued a statement on Thursday, clarifying that this requirement had been discontinued.

Babafemi explained that the inclusion of such a requirement arose due to some unfortunate incidents in certain source countries, but assured Nigerians that it is no longer mandatory.

“The entire procedure for visa clearance issued by the NDLEA, as required by some countries, is currently undergoing review,” Babafemi said. “The requirement for a married woman to present a letter of approval from her husband to travel is one of the items that the Agency has since jettisoned as a non-mandatory item on the list.”

He further assured the public that the review process is ongoing, and the revised guidelines will be made available in the coming days.
