NSIB Investigates Sikorsky Helicopter Crash Near Port Harcourt, Preliminary Report Expected in 30 Days

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has announced that the cause of Thursday's Sikorsky SK76 helicopter crash near Port Harcourt, Rivers State, remains unknown. The NSIB has pledged to release a preliminary report on the incident within 30 days.

The crash, which occurred around 11:22 a.m., claimed three lives. The helicopter, operated by East Wind Aviation and registered as 5NBQG, was en route from the Port Harcourt Military Base (DNPM) to the Nuimantan oil site. The aircraft went down approximately one kilometre away from its intended destination, landing in the waterways.

According to NSIB Director General Alex Badeh Jr., the circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation. "The circumstances surrounding the crash remain unknown, but a preliminary report of the accident will be out within 30 days," Badeh Jr. told Channels Television.

There were eight people confirmed to be on board the helicopter. As of now, three bodies have been recovered from the crash site.
