Organization Urges NGOs, Business Leaders, and Wealthy Nigerians to Support Communities Amid Rising Hardships

An organization has called on NGOs, business leaders, and affluent individuals to come together and assist communities facing severe hunger and increasing hardship. The appeal comes in the wake of rising fuel prices, which have further strained people's ability to afford basic necessities.

In a statement, the organization expressed deep concern over the worsening situation, urging NGOs to collaborate in supporting local communities. It also called on the government to intensify efforts to alleviate suffering, while acknowledging that various initiatives had already been in progress before the current administration took office.

The organization appealed to wealthy Nigerians to step up and offer assistance during this critical period. "It is essential for the wealthy to share their resources and assist those in need," the statement read, urging business leaders and politicians to avoid hoarding wealth while the general population endures significant hardship.

In response to the ongoing challenges, the Atum Humanitarian and Charitable Initiative has committed to raising N500 million to support two million Nigerians affected by poverty. This appeal follows the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited's (NNPCL) recent increase in Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) prices to N1,030 per liter, which has exacerbated the economic strain on citizens.

The organization emphasized the urgent need for collective action, calling for support from various sectors to help address the current crisis and provide relief to those in dire need.
