Senator Basheer Lado Dismisses Rumors of Impeachment Against Senate President Godswill Akpabio

The administration has dismissed reports suggesting that Senate President Godswill Akpabio is facing impeachment. Senator Basheer Lado, President Bola Tinubu's Advisor on National Assembly Matters (Senate), assured the public that the claims are baseless, urging them to ignore such reports.

In a statement, Lado emphasized that the relationship between the Executive and Legislature remains strong, with President Tinubu committed to working collaboratively with the legislative branch. He reassured that the Senate would continue to function freely, and that the security presence at the National Assembly complex is a routine measure to ensure the safety of lawmakers and staff.

"The attention of this office has been drawn to online reports alleging that security agents have been deployed to prevent senators from carrying out their legislative duties, specifically regarding an alleged impeachment of the Senate President," Lado stated.

"I wish to categorically state that these reports are baseless and should be disregarded, as there is no discord within the rank and file of the senators. The legislative body remains united in its commitment to advancing Nigeria’s democracy."

He further highlighted President Tinubu's dedication to fostering a harmonious relationship among senators, recognizing the Senate's critical role in legislative progress. "His Excellency remains committed to ensuring that this collaboration is based on mutual respect, dialogue, and shared goals for peace, progress, and prosperity of all Nigerians."

Lado urged the public to disregard unfounded publications that could undermine the integrity of the legislature.
