Another National Grid Collapse Leaves Nigeria in Darkness, Affecting Multiple States

Nigeria experienced another national grid collapse on Tuesday, plunging the country into darkness. According to the official National Nigeria Grid X account, the incident occurred at around 2:09 p.m., marking the latest in a series of disruptions that have plagued the nation’s electricity supply. This year alone, there have been at least eight documented grid failures, with the latest affecting nine northern states.

In response, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) alerted residents to the grid failure in a notice signed by Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC. The message, issued Tuesday afternoon, confirmed a “general system collapse” that took place at 13:52 hours on November 5, 2024. This has led to supply disruptions across the EEDC network, impacting customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Imo States.

Ezeh noted that “due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in the affected areas.” He added that EEDC is awaiting detailed information from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo regarding restoration efforts.
