Kwara State Approves Monetary Bonus for Civil Servants as Relief for PAYE Adjustments
Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has approved a special monetary incentive for all state civil servants, including local government employees, equivalent to the monthly Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax due.
State Finance Commissioner Hauwa Nuru announced that this emergency support package will run for three months, covering October to December. She explained, “This bonus has been approved as a buffer to mitigate the impact of the correct PAYE deduction that may have affected the recently implemented minimum wage. It serves as a soothing measure to help workers adjust to the correct PAYE deductions, aligned with the Personal Income Tax Act.”
The bonus payment will begin in October and continue through December 2024. Nuru urged employees who have not registered with the Kwara State Residents' Registration Agency (KWSRRA) to do so promptly, as “anyone without it will not receive the bonus for November and December.”
Additionally, labour unions have agreed to reimburse employees for the special charges previously withheld from salaries, with a halt on further deductions until further notice. Nuru highlighted Governor AbdulRazaq’s commitment to the welfare of Kwara’s workforce, adding, “This relief speaks volumes about his humanity and dedication to supporting workers.”
