Lere Olayinka Suggests Atiku Support Peter Obi for Presidency
Lere Olayinka, media assistant to former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has suggested that Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), consider stepping aside in support of Peter Obi for the 2027 presidential race.
Olayinka's comment was in response to an X user, Mfaarees, who proposed that Obi accept the vice-presidential role if offered by Atiku. Mfaarees argued that a united front with Atiku as president and Obi as vice president could be the best solution to counter the "forces of tyranny" in Nigeria, adding that Obi has the qualities necessary to help safeguard the country’s future.
Mfaarees had posted, “Peter Obi has what it takes to save this country. If he really cares about Nigerians, he should accept the VP slot with Atiku as President; they’re the only people who can defeat this great force of tyranny.” In response, Lere replied, “Why can’t @atiku also make a sacrifice and support @PeterObi for President?”
This discussion comes amid ongoing merger talks among Nigeria’s major opposition leaders. However, PDP chieftain Katchi Ononuju has stated that Peter Obi will not be vying for the vice-presidential position under Atiku.
