Medical Emergency in Abriba: Free Drug Outreach Leaves Locals Hospitalized

Residents of Abriba, a large town in the Ohafia Local Government Area (LGA) of Abia State, are on edge after several individuals developed severe health issues following their participation in a free medical outreach.
The outreach, organized by an unnamed group on Saturday at Erinma Hall, was intended to provide healthcare services to the public. However, many participants reportedly suffered adverse reactions to the drugs distributed during the event, leading to widespread concern among locals.

Emergency medical care was provided at a hospital in Abriba, where affected individuals were admitted. The state government’s Ebube Ena Hospital, a larger healthcare facility, is also treating several victims.

In response to the alarming situation, Chief Eleanya Kalu, the Executive Chairman of Ohafia LGA, intervened to ensure the victims received immediate medical attention and close monitoring.

The Abia State Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Uche, confirmed the incident and assured the public that the state government is actively addressing the issue. Speaking to Daily Post, Uche stated:
“We are on top of the situation. We are still handling the situation. That is what is on my desk now. We are working on it to ensure that those people are safe.”

While details about the drugs distributed during the outreach remain unclear, the Abia State Government has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the adverse reactions and to prevent future occurrences.
