Nigerian Government Fires Graduates of Benin Republic Universities
Shehu Sani, a prominent activist and former senator, has revealed that Nigerian government employees who graduated from universities in the Benin Republic have been dismissed from their positions.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Monday, Sani expressed his dismay over the terminations but did not provide details regarding the rationale behind the decision.
“So sad to read the termination letters of some of the FG staff who graduated from the universities in Benin Republic,” he wrote in a brief statement.
This development comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Benin Republic universities, which were accused of issuing fraudulent degrees earlier this year. Nigerian journalist Umar Audu previously disclosed that he had obtained a degree from a Benin Republic university by paying N600,000.
In response to such controversies, the Nigerian government recently announced the suspension of degrees from Benin Republic universities and other implicated institutions. Notably, 18 foreign universities had already been blacklisted by the Nigerian government in the past.
