President Tinubu Honors Indian Prime Minister Modi with National Award

During a bilateral meeting on Sunday, November 17, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu conferred the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recognizing him with one of Nigeria's highest national honors.

The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Abuja as part of the Indian Prime Minister’s state visit to Nigeria. President Tinubu acknowledged the longstanding friendship between Nigeria and India, expressing his hope to further strengthen ties.

“Nigeria values its excellent relationship with India, and we work to deepen and broaden the same to the mutual benefit of our two friendly countries,” Tinubu remarked. He praised Prime Minister Modi's dedication to democratic values, highlighting his leadership in winning multiple elections in India’s diverse society.

“I will confer on you today, the Prime Minister of India, Nigeria’s National Honour, the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger,” Tinubu stated, “This signifies Nigerian appreciation and commitment to India as a partner.”

The award presentation is one of several events commemorating Prime Minister Modi's visit, aimed at fostering continued cooperation and shared goals between the two nations.
