Arewa Consultative Forum Reinstates Suspended National Chairman Mamman Mike Osuman

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has reinstated its suspended National Chairman, Mamman Mike Osuman, following his earlier suspension over controversial remarks about the 2027 presidential elections.

Osuman’s suspension, initially sparked by his statement that the North would not support President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid, has now been lifted.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ACF’s Secretary-General, Malam Murtala Aliyu, confirmed the development, crediting the reconciliation to the Forum’s Unity, Peace, and Reconciliation Committee, chaired by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Yayale Ahmed.

Aliyu emphasized that the resolution was achieved in the spirit of unity and the collective interest of Arewa. “The ACF Unity, Peace, and Reconciliation Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, CFR, Ajiyan Katagum, has intervened in the recent leadership crisis in ACF.

“It had invited some stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and that of the National Executive Council, among others, and has had a family discussion on the unfortunate development.

“Consequently, the issue has been amicably resolved in the interest of the great people of Arewa, and the suspension is hereby withdrawn,” the statement read.

Previously, members of the Forum’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Council (NEC) criticized Osuman’s comments for allegedly deviating from the ACF's nonpartisan stance.

BoT Chairman Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu and ACF Secretary-General Malam Murtala Aliyu issued a joint statement clarifying that Osuman’s remarks were not endorsed by the Forum and stressed the importance of maintaining neutrality.
