Governor Uzodinma Calls for Constructive Debate on Tax Reform Bills

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has urged Nigerians to approach the ongoing discourse surrounding the tax reform legislation with objectivity and avoid politicizing the matter. Speaking in Owerri on Thursday, the governor emphasized the importance of understanding the proposed bills before forming opinions.

"Many of us criticizing the tax reform bills haven't even bothered to read the bills," Uzodinma stated.

The governor explained that the legislation aims to streamline Nigeria's tax system, enhance revenue generation, and ensure fiscal discipline across the country.

“This is an economic bill meant to raise more money for the government while harmonizing our tax regime to bring about prudence and decorum in taxation practices,” he added.

He also appealed to citizens and stakeholders to engage with the bills constructively rather than turning them into tools for political blackmail.

“I think it’s a document that has been crafted in a well-articulated manner and deserves proper attention, especially as it’s an executive bill from the president. It shouldn’t be trivialized,” Uzodinma stated.

The tax reform bills, which include measures to update Nigeria's tax laws and promote economic growth, have sparked mixed reactions among citizens and lawmakers. Governor Uzodinma’s remarks highlight the need for informed and balanced discussions to achieve the intended outcomes.
