NCAA to Enforce Airline Accountability and Empower Air Travelers During Peak Travel Season

The Federal Government, through the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has announced its commitment to holding airlines accountable for unnecessary flight delays while also educating passengers about their rights and responsibilities.

This assurance was given by Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Head of Consumer Protection, during a road walk in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday. The initiative aims to address challenges faced by travelers during the busy holiday season.

“This is the high travel season in aviation, and as expected, there has been an increase in flight disruptions and passenger complaints,” Achimugu said.

“Our duty at NCAA is to educate passengers because many of the complaints arise from limited knowledge of their rights and responsibilities as air travelers.

"We’re here to ensure fairness by protecting both passengers and airlines,” he added.

The NCAA emphasized the importance of understanding the causes of flight delays, which can range from weather conditions to operational challenges, and encouraged travelers to stay informed to ease frustrations during their journeys.

The road walk in Port Harcourt is part of a broader awareness campaign by the NCAA to foster better communication between airlines and passengers while ensuring compliance with aviation regulations.

Travelers are urged to remain patient and cooperative while navigating the busy travel season, with the assurance that the NCAA will enforce accountability measures for any undue inconveniences.
