Obasanjo Advocates Persistent Leadership Action Against Corruption in Nigeria

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has emphasized the need for consistent and dedicated efforts from Nigeria’s leadership to combat corruption and build effective governance.

Speaking during the "Boiling Point Arena," an interactive Zoom session broadcast on private radio stations in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo reflected on the pervasive nature of corruption in the country.

“Corruption is very hydra-headed and eats deep,” Obasanjo remarked, likening it to the complexity of wearing a babariga. “If you fold it on one side, it falls apart on the other. When you try to manage it on both sides, you can’t raise your hands, and when you let go, it collapses. That’s how corruption operates,” he explained.

He stressed that addressing corruption requires persistence across multiple administrations. “It’s not a one-day affair or a task for one regime. It has to be consistent and continual—a daily effort. If one administration lets its guard down, corruption spreads,” he said.

The session focused on Obasanjo's political legacy and his thoughts on Nigeria’s contemporary challenges, with the former president calling on leaders to take decisive and sustained action to tackle corruption.

This discussion serves as a call to action for leaders and citizens alike to prioritize accountability and integrity in their respective roles to foster a corruption-free society.
