John Dumelo Wins Ayawaso West Wuogon Parliamentary Seat in Ghana's 2024 Elections

John Dumelo, a renowned Ghanaian actor and politician, has emerged victorious in the 2024 parliamentary election for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency. Representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dumelo secured 40,561 votes, defeating incumbent Lydia Alhassan of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 27,377 votes.

The election took place on Saturday, December 7, as part of Ghana's general elections. Dumelo’s victory marks a significant political milestone following his narrow loss to Alhassan in the 2020 parliamentary race.

Dumelo’s political journey has paralleled his longstanding acting career, which began in 1991 while he was still a student. Over the years, he has starred in numerous Gollywood and Nollywood films, earning accolades across the African entertainment industry.

Observers view his win as indicative of a shift in voter sentiment within the constituency. Dumelo has pledged to work towards policies that address local concerns, including education, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment.
