Osun State Government Reaffirms Commitment to Peace Amid Border Disputes

The Osun State government has reaffirmed its dedication to fostering harmony and peace, particularly in areas with a history of border disputes.

During the commemoration of Olaojo Royal Family Day at the Olufon of Ifon's palace on Sunday, Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, highlighted the administration’s resolve to ensure peaceful coexistence across the state.

Alimi emphasized that addressing communal unrest is a priority for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration. He pointed out ongoing efforts to mitigate boundary-related tensions in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun—communities that have frequently experienced conflicts.

“These efforts aim to find lasting solutions and promote understanding among the aggrieved parties,” he said, adding that Governor Adeleke has initiated stakeholder discussions to address the root causes of these disputes.

The commissioner stressed the importance of cooperation among residents of affected areas and warned against actions that could incite communal conflict. “The administration has also reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on actions capable of inciting violence or disrupting public order,” he stated.

The boundary disputes in these communities have led to loss of lives and property, threatening the state’s peace and stability. Alimi assured residents that the government is working tirelessly to resolve these issues.

“I want you all to know that without peace, we are not going to achieve anything. We are brothers, and killing or fighting ourselves should not be the solution to our problems,” Alimi said. He urged the communities to view themselves as one and collaborate to resolve their differences.

He also commended Oba Peter Ipadeola, the Olufon of Ifon, for uniting the royal family in celebrating their heritage during the festivities, describing it as a vital step toward strengthening community bonds.

The Osun State government continues to prioritize peace and stability, with measures in place to prevent any individual or group from disrupting public order.
