Pastor Tobi Adegboyega Disagrees with UK Politician Kemi Badenoch's Criticism of Nigeria

Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, founder of the Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church (SPAC Nation), has expressed his disapproval of recent remarks made by UK opposition leader Kemi Badenoch about Nigeria.

Badenoch, head of the UK’s Conservative Party, recently described an incident where her brother's shoe and watch were allegedly taken by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). In an interview with US-based media outlet The Free Press, Badenoch labeled her experience with Nigerian law enforcement as "unforgettable."

Her remarks have sparked significant backlash from Nigerians, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, who criticized her for portraying Nigeria in a negative light.

In an interview with Channels Television, Pastor Adegboyega disagreed with Badenoch’s characterization of Nigeria, comparing issues in the UK to those faced by Nigeria.

“I completely disagree with her statement. In 2023, 2024, 78,000 bags were snatched. 78,000 phones were snatched in the UK in London. So I disagree with the statement.”

Pastor Adegboyega emphasized the challenges faced by the black community in the UK and highlighted disparities in incarceration and education rates.

“There is a very strong Nigerian black community in the UK. People who have been fighting for people like the leader of the opposition that you just mentioned to get to that position.

“Do you know that prisons have more young black people than schools in the UK? In most mental hospitals, we have more young black people than in schools.”

Adegboyega acknowledged that Nigeria has its own challenges but firmly rejected Badenoch’s depiction, stating it was far from the full reality.

“Yes, our country has its own issues, but it’s definitely not true what the leader of the opposition is saying.”
