US Lawmakers Urge Biden to Halt Offensive Weaponry Transfers to Israel Amid Gaza Crisis

A group of 20 Democratic congressmen has called on President Joe Biden to cease the transfer of offensive weapons to Israel. They emphasized that Israel has not met American demands to facilitate additional humanitarian aid to Gaza.

This appeal was made in a letter sent on Tuesday to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The letter, spearheaded by Congressmen Greg Casar and Summer Lee, urged the Biden administration to enforce US laws that prohibit the use of American-backed humanitarian aid for military purposes and limit military support to nations accused of committing war crimes.

The lawmakers wrote:
“We believe continuing to transfer offensive weapons to the Israeli government prolongs the suffering of the Palestinian people and risks our own national security by sending a message to the world that the US will apply its laws, policies, and international law selectively.”

The letter further warned that if no action is taken, the Israeli military campaign in Gaza would continue, leading to Israel’s increasing isolation on the international stage and fostering further instability in the region.
