Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road Rehabilitation to Be Completed in 14 Months
Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, has assured citizens that the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano dual carriageway rehabilitation will be completed within 14 months.
Speaking at the opening of the road's Section 1 restoration, covering the Abuja to Kaduna portion, Idris reiterated the government’s commitment to timely delivery. “President Bola Tinubu is determined to ensure this road is completed in a record time of 14 months,” the minister stated.
The project has been divided into three sections for efficient execution:
- Section 1: Abuja to Kaduna
- Section 2: Kaduna to Zaria
- Section 3: Zaria to Kano
“This separation allows for smooth development and faster construction,” Idris explained, adding that the government canceled the previous contractor's agreement, which had proposed a three-year timeline.
Highlighting the road's importance to Nigerians, Idris emphasized the government’s resolve to address past delays and ensure progress. “The President has given a matching order, and the National Assembly is fully cooperating to avoid any setbacks,” he said.
Mr. David Umahi, Minister of Works, was also credited with resolving earlier challenges, paving the way for swift progress. “With all hands on deck, within 14 months, we will deliver a brand-new road from Abuja to Kano,” Idris confidently declared.
The rehabilitation project includes significant upgrades, such as:
- Repairing embankments and installing drainage systems.
- Reinforcing the road with a 200 mm thick concrete pavement.
- Adding hydraulic structures and median barriers for enhanced safety.
