APC Leader Urges President Tinubu to Address Banditry in Zamfara and Sokoto States
Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address recent security threats posed by bandit leader Bello Turji.
Speaking to reporters in Gusau, Shinkafi disclosed that Turji had allegedly issued threats through a video, demanding the release of his cousin, Bello Wurge, who is reportedly in custody. Shinkafi claimed the threats have caused tension in affected areas, prompting some residents to flee for safety.
He urged stakeholders in Zamfara and Sokoto States to work together to seek federal intervention, emphasizing that combating banditry requires collective efforts beyond political affiliations. “We need to act now by forming a committee to meet with President Tinubu for prompt action,” Shinkafi stated.
Shinkafi also stressed the importance of restoring security to enable farmers to resume their activities, noting that a significant portion of farmland in Zamfara State remained uncultivated during the last rainy season due to banditry.
He appealed to security agencies and the military to take decisive steps in addressing the issue and ensuring the safety of lives and property in the region.
