Bauchi APC Advocates for Tax Reforms, Calls for Transparency in Governance

The Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Governor Bala Mohammed to reconsider his stance on the proposed tax reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu's administration. The party described the Tax Reform Bills currently under consideration by the National Assembly as a critical step toward boosting Nigeria's economy and ensuring equitable resource distribution among states.

Adamu Aliyu Jallah, the APC's publicity secretary, spoke during a press conference in Bauchi, highlighting the potential benefits of the reforms. “For Nigeria to compete favorably with developing nations, it must embrace progressive taxation policies. Tax reform is a globally recognized tool for enhancing government revenue and meeting citizens’ needs,” Jallah stated.

He urged the governor to study the proposed bills and engage constructively with relevant authorities if any issues were identified.

The APC also raised concerns about financial accountability in Bauchi State, calling for transparency regarding the use of funds allocated to the state during the current administration. According to Jallah, federal allocations and statutory funds amounting to billions of naira have not translated into visible development projects.

Additionally, the APC addressed concerns over salary delays and the state government’s privatisation plans. Jallah encouraged Governor Mohammed to prioritise resolving salary issues and to ensure that privatisation efforts benefit the people of Bauchi State.

The party reiterated its support for initiatives that promote economic growth and called for collaboration between state and federal governments to improve governance and the welfare of citizens.
