KADOBA Calls on Governor Sani to Prioritize Education at Government College Kaduna

The Old Boys Association of Government College Kaduna (KADOBA) has urged Governor Uba Sani to relocate the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp from the school's premises, citing the negative impact on students' education.

During a news conference commemorating the 20th anniversary of their graduation, the Class of 2004 highlighted the school's deteriorating infrastructure, noting a severe shortage of classrooms, dormitories, and other essential facilities.

“The conversion of parts of our alma mater into camps for NYSC orientation and civil defense training has exacerbated these challenges,” said Engr. Abdur Rahman Musa, Chairman of KADOBA (Class of 2004). Speaking at the event held on the school grounds in Abakpa, he called on the governor to prioritize students’ education by moving the NYSC camp to its permanent location along the Kaduna-Abuja road.

Engr. Musa acknowledged the state’s past security challenges, which necessitated the temporary use of the school, but emphasized the improved safety under Governor Sani’s administration. “With the enhanced security, it is time to return corps members to their permanent orientation camp,” he stated.

Yusuf Muhammad, KADOBA’s national president, echoed these concerns, highlighting the psychological effects on students and the decline in the school’s enrollment. “Government College Kaduna was once a premier institution, producing governors, senators, military officers, and captains of industry. Today, the total student population across all classes is less than 300, compared to the past when a single form had over 300 students,” Muhammad said.

He noted that 70-80% of the school’s facilities are currently used for non-educational purposes, contributing to their decline. “This situation should give everyone sleepless nights. We trust that Governor Sani, with his accessible and people-centered leadership, will act swiftly to restore the school to its former glory,” Muhammad concluded.

The association called for immediate government intervention to address these challenges and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the school’s revival.
