NCC to Introduce Coverage Maps and Build on 2024 Achievements

Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) and CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has assured Nigerians that the Commission will enhance its achievements from 2024 in the upcoming year.

Speaking on the Commission’s plans, Maida announced the introduction of coverage maps based on real-time data gathered through crowdsourcing. The maps aim to help mobile network users identify the best-performing network in their area.

Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy, shared this update in a series of tweets on his official X handle on Thursday.

Maida stated, “2025, I’m really optimistic. We are going to build on the small gains we made in 2024. Now that we have laid some of the necessary foundations, we are going to see a lot more transparency to help drive competition and service delivery amongst operators.”

He added, “We are also going to be providing coverage maps towards the end of the year, from crowd-sourced data. This is not simulated data; it is actual performance data, which will show you what is the best network in your area. No longer will you need to ask the man or woman nearest to you. You can actually come to the NCC’s website and look at the data for yourself.”

One of the major accomplishments cited for 2024 was the implementation and completion of the Federal Government’s policy on NIN-SIM linkage. Additionally, the Presidential Order issued on November 6, 2024, designated NCC’s infrastructure as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII).
