President Tinubu to Attend Mahama’s Inauguration in Ghana

On Monday, January 7, President Bola Tinubu will depart Lagos for Accra, Ghana, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama.

The ceremony will take place in Accra, Ghana’s capital, and marks Mahama’s return to power after his electoral victory in December 2024. Mahama previously served as Ghana's 12th President from 2011 to 2017 and succeeds President Nana Akuffo-Addo, whose tenure spanned from 2017 to 2025.

Shortly after his election, Mahama paid a courtesy visit to Tinubu in December 2024, reflecting their long-standing personal rapport. “Mahama and Tinubu have a longstanding personal relationship, similar to what Nigeria and Ghana share through their bilateral relationship,” explained Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu's media aide.

Tinubu is attending the event in his capacity as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government. Other African leaders are also expected to be present.

According to an official statement, Tinubu will be accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior government officials.
