PRP Bauchi State Chapter Criticizes 2025 Budget Allocations for Travel and Fuel Expenses
The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State has expressed concern over the allocation of over N3.4 billion for travel expenses, generator fuel, and vehicle fuelling in the 2025 budget by the State House of Assembly and the Bauchi State Government. The party described the allocation as mismanaging state resources, particularly during economic hardship for many residents.
In a statement released on Friday by the State Secretary, Wada Abdullahi, the PRP called for accountability from government officials, citing the budget's misaligned priorities.
The statement highlighted that N500 million was allocated for vehicle fuel and an additional N500 million for generator fuel, totaling N1 billion for fuelling at Government House. “This allocation reflects a troubling mismanagement of state resources, especially when many families in Bauchi are struggling to meet basic needs,” the statement read.
The PRP also criticized the State House of Assembly's plan to spend N1.4 billion on travel expenses, calling it an excessive use of public funds. Abdullahi questioned how such funds could have been better utilized for projects like schools, healthcare facilities, or road repairs.
The Office of the Secretary to the State Government was also noted to have earmarked N1 billion for international travel. “While hospitals lack essential medical equipment, schools remain underfunded, and roads are in poor condition, the government appears to prioritize foreign trips over addressing critical issues,” Abdullahi added.
The party urged government officials, including Governor Bala Mohammed and State House of Assembly members, to reconsider these budgetary allocations and focus on initiatives that directly benefit the citizens.
“The people of Bauchi must demand accountability from their leaders and advocate for transparent governance. It is essential to redirect resources towards addressing pressing needs that impact the lives of ordinary citizens,” the statement concluded.
