Tinubu Calls for Proactive Military Action Against Insurgents After Damboa Attack

President Bola Tinubu has called on the Nigerian military to intensify efforts against insurgency, urging proactive offensives on terrorist and bandit camps, particularly in the Northwest. His statement follows a tragic attack on a military installation in Damboa, Borno State, where six soldiers lost their lives.

Tinubu emphasized the importance of focusing military efforts on regions where these criminal groups continue to pose threats to innocent communities. Offering his condolences, he described the fallen soldiers as valiant heroes whose dedication to defending the nation will always be honored.

Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, released a statement on Thursday extending the President’s sympathies to the bereaved families and the military leadership. Tinubu also called for a thorough investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding the attack and ensure lessons are learned to prevent future occurrences.

“I commend the armed forces for their swift and decisive response, particularly the air component, in launching effective retaliatory strikes,” Tinubu stated. “The targeted air raids led to the significant neutralization of numerous terrorists and the destruction of their assets as they attempted to flee.”

He added, “This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security. Their actions reaffirm our commitment to eradicating terrorism and banditry, paving the way for a future where peace and security prevail for all Nigerians.”

The President reiterated his gratitude to the armed forces, acknowledging their sacrifices and dedication. “Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this ongoing fight to eliminate these threats,” Tinubu assured.

He further urged the military to take a more aggressive approach, focusing on the Northwest, where communities remain vulnerable to attacks. “This is a fight for the safety and security of every Nigerian,” he concluded, calling for a united front in the battle against insurgency and criminality.
