Adamawa State Restructures Traditional Titles, Affecting Atiku, Fintiri, and Others
The Adamawa State Government has revoked several traditional titles following the reorganization of the state's emirates and chiefdoms. This decision affects prominent figures, including Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Governor Boni Haruna.
Governor Fintiri announced the restructuring during the coronation of the new Chief of Madagali, clarifying that all District Heads must now align with the newly created emirates and chiefdoms. Traditional titles granted under the previous system are no longer recognized.
Notable Figures Affected:
- Governor Fintiri loses his title of Sarki Yaki Mubi
- Atiku Abubakar is stripped of his title as Waziri Adamawa
- Boni Haruna forfeits his title of Makama Mubi
The governor directed traditional councils in the new emirates to submit new title nominations for approval, in accordance with customary regulations.
Additionally, he noted that while Atiku and others could be reconsidered for their titles, the Lamido of Adamawa must submit their names for approval, with final consent resting with the governor.
