APC Facing Financial Struggles, Says Ex-Voice of Nigeria DG

Former Voice of Nigeria Director-General, Osita Okechukwu, has revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently cash-strapped, citing years of legal disputes as the cause of the party’s financial woes.

Okechukwu made this statement while discussing the APC’s N8.9 billion debt accumulation. On Wednesday, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje confirmed that he inherited the debt from his predecessor upon assuming office.

Speaking at the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Ganduje explained that the debt was linked to:

  • Election-related legal fees (legislative, gubernatorial, and presidential appeals)
  • Pre-election court cases

He stated:

“The current NWC inherited debts and legal liabilities to the total tune of N8,987,874,663, arising from various legal engagements.”

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Okechukwu attributed the APC’s financial struggles to an interrupted biometric membership registration system initiated by President Bola Tinubu during the party’s early years.

He explained: “We were only able to do Anambra in 2013 with that machine. When this information got to then-President Jonathan, he instructed the Department of State Services to close it down.”

According to Okechukwu, the closure disrupted APC’s plans to implement a membership contribution system, which could have provided financial stability for the party.

“If those tokens were done, we could not have been owing because we are now bedeviled in a situation.”

Okechukwu further claimed that APC’s financial structure differs from the PDP’s, as the former ruling party allegedly taxed ministers during its time in power.

“The debt came from outstanding legal fees. We didn’t do what PDP used to do while in the presidency; they were taxing ministers. We don’t have money.”
