EU Pushes for Special Tribunal to Prosecute Russia for Aggression
According to international lawyer Jennifer Rankin, cited by the Guardian UK, international attorneys have “laid the foundations” for a special tribunal to prosecute Russia for the crime of aggression.
This initiative aims to hold Russian military and political leaders “who bear the greatest responsibility” accountable, following a significant announcement from the European Union’s executive yesterday.
Kaja Kallas, the head of EU foreign policy, remarked, “There is no doubt that Putin has committed the crime of aggression, which is deciding to attack another country.”
Meanwhile, Russia has insisted that its inflation woes are not a result of recent Western sanctions. The country attributes its high inflation rates to a smaller harvest and a weaker rouble.
Inflation has been a persistent issue in Russia since December 2024 and January 2025. On Tuesday, the Russian central bank stated that inflation is unrelated to Western sanctions.
As Russia approaches the fourth year of what it calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine, inflation— which soared to 9.5% in 2024 — has emerged as the country’s biggest economic challenge.
