Kano State Assembly Condemns Bayero University VC Over Rimin Zakaria Demolitions
The Kano State House of Assembly has strongly criticized the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, for his remarks regarding the demolition of buildings in Rimin Zakaria.
The controversy arose when Aminu Sa’adu Ungogo, the lawmaker representing Ungogo Local Government Area, raised a motion urging the Assembly to halt the university’s demolition activities. Reports indicate that four people have died, and several others have been injured due to the demolitions.
Ungogo condemned the university's actions, stating that their approach violates international laws. He also labeled the Vice-Chancellor’s comments as insensitive and heartless, showing a disregard for human lives.
In response, the Assembly has:
- Directed its national committee to collaborate with the Kano State Government’s investigative committee to uncover the truth.
- Called on the state administration to scrutinize officials who assisted Bayero University in executing the demolitions.
The Assembly’s intervention signals growing concern over forced evictions and property demolitions in Kano, with lawmakers demanding accountability and justice for affected residents.
