Kebbi State Increases Monthly Boarding School Meal Budget to N300 Million
The Kebbi State Government has announced an increase in the monthly feeding budget for boarding secondary school students from N175 million to N300 million, aiming to boost student morale and retention.
Governor Dr. Nasir Idris made this known during a courtesy visit by the national leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) at Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
Governor Idris emphasized that the increase in the school feeding budget is to ensure that students receive nutritious meals that encourage them to stay in school.
Regarding agriculture, he stated that the state had procured 500 trucks of fertilizer, which were distributed free of charge to farmers to enhance agricultural productivity and contribute to national food security.
To alleviate the effects of fuel subsidy removal, the government also distributed 550 truckloads of food items to residents at no cost. Additionally, plans are underway to distribute:
- 25,000 solar pump machines
- Pesticides & herbicides
- 250 trucks of assorted food items ahead of Ramadan
The governor highlighted the state’s empowerment programs, mentioning that 65,000 people received N100,000 each under the Kebbi Cares initiative, totaling N65 billion. A second phase of the program is planned.
The NUJ National President, Alhassan Yahaya, commended Governor Idris for his developmental projects across health, education, agriculture, and welfare. He encouraged the governor to sustain these efforts for the benefit of Kebbi State residents.
The statement was signed and released by Malam Ahmed Idris, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor.
