Lagos-Calabar Highway: First Phase to Be Completed by May 2025
The Nigerian government has announced that Phase 1, Section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar Highway will be completed by May 2025, covering 30 out of the 70 kilometers planned for the section.
Speaking at a stakeholder meeting on Saturday, Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, confirmed the progress of the project.
“30km out of 70km of Channel Zero, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to be commissioned in May 2025.”
The government has disbursed N15 billion out of the N18 billion allocated for the first round of compensation to property owners affected by demolitions along Section 1 of the project.
At the event, Bede Obioha, the Director of Federal Highways, Bridges, and Design, provided updates on the compensation plan.
“For Section 1, 47.7 km, the quantum of compensation already put together is in excess of N18bn, and so far the contractor has managed to disburse over N15bn.”
The Lagos-Calabar Highway was launched in March 2024 under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with an estimated cost of N4 billion per kilometer.
