NAFDAC Cracks Down on Fake Drugs, Investigates Suppliers
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has launched an investigation to identify individuals involved in the distribution of counterfeit and substandard medications across Nigeria.
This was disclosed by Martins Iluyomade, NAFDAC’s Southeast Zonal Director, following a raid at the Onitsha Bridgehead Drug Market in Anambra State over the weekend.
Iluyomade emphasized that anyone involved in the sale of fake drugs will face legal consequences. He noted that despite initial denials from traders, NAFDAC is determined to hold those responsible accountable.
“We are still investigating. Suddenly, nobody knows their neighbor who owns these fake drugs. But we are sending a message that it cannot be business as usual,” Iluyomade stated.
Following the discovery of counterfeit medications at the Ogbo Ogwu sector of the Bridgehead Market, NAFDAC sealed off the entire market.
As part of its nationwide crackdown on fake and substandard drugs, NAFDAC has shut down approximately 11,000 stores and arrested 40 individuals.
The agency remains committed to ensuring public safety and strict enforcement of drug regulations across the country
