NDLEA Ogun Commander Urges for State-Managed Drug Rehabilitation Center

The Ogun State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Tijjani Rabe, has expressed concern over the lack of a rehabilitation center in the state.

He emphasized that an NDLEA-owned facility would help in the timely rehabilitation of drug users and address the stigma associated with treatment.

Rabe made this statement on Monday during an advocacy visit to Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), at the RCCG camp along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The commander lamented that, despite receiving individuals in need of therapy, the NDLEA in Ogun State does not have a facility to accommodate and rehabilitate them.

“After my assumption of duty in Ogun State, I realized that it’s one of the few states that do not have a rehabilitation center managed by NDLEA. We always receive people brought to our office for counseling, but we don’t have the property or a place where we can keep them, treat them, and rehabilitate them.”

He explained that rehabilitation goes beyond counseling, requiring treatment, skill-building, and reintegration into society.

According to Rabe, some drug victims avoid psychiatric hospitals due to stigma, while others cannot afford treatment at private centers.

“It’s a long and difficult process to save lives from drug addiction. While private rehab centers exist, treatment there is very expensive. We sometimes refer patients to the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, but due to stigma, many families hesitate to take their loved ones there.”

In response, Pastor Enoch Adeboye pledged RCCG’s continued support for NDLEA’s efforts, emphasizing that collaboration is key to winning the fight against drug abuse.

“The fight against drug abuse can only be won through cooperation,” Adeboye stated.
