NECO Releases 2024 SSCE External Results, Warns Against Exam Malpractice
The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) external results, revealing that 57,114 out of 84,799 candidates (67.35%) obtained five credits or more, including English and Mathematics.
In an effort to uphold examination integrity, NECO has blacklisted 14 examination centers across five states—Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi—for engaging in "whole center" malpractice across nine subjects.
Additionally, NECO’s Registrar and CEO, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, announced that:
- 6,160 candidates were caught engaging in misconduct, marking a 27.7% decrease from 2023.
- Seven supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor monitoring, lateness, and aiding malpractice.
- Any blacklisted supervisor’s details will be shared with other examination bodies like JAMB to prevent future participation in exams.
Wushishi, speaking at NECO headquarters in Minna, stated that:
- The results, covering 29 subjects, were released 62 days after the final exam.
- The total candidates comprised 40,522 females (47.78%) and 44,227 males (52.21%).
NECO reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on malpractice, emphasizing that disciplinary measures are in place to safeguard credibility and fairness in Nigeria’s educational system.
