Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade Recovers 1,913 Weapons in One Year

The Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade has recovered at least 1,913 weapons over the past year during operations across its jurisdiction.

The disclosure was made on Thursday when Major General Eyitayo Folusho Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, visited the Brigade headquarters in Jalingo, Taraba State.

Providing details of the seizures, Brigade Commander Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, through the Brigade’s spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde, listed the recovered weapons as follows:

  • 34 AK-47 rifles
  • 5 locally made handguns
  • 6 pump-action shotguns
  • 1 locally made gun
  • 1 Browning cannon
  • 1 rocket-propelled grenade launcher
  • 5 locally built submachine guns
  • 15 single-barrel guns
  • 1 double-barrel gun
  • 1 PKMG machine gun
  • 1 locally made AK-47 rifle
  • 1 locally made revolver
  • 1 hand grenade

Additionally, the troops confiscated a significant cache of ammunition, including:

  • 970 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
  • 41 rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition
  • 59 rounds of 7.6mm NATO ammunition
  • 84 rounds of M16 ammunition
  • 84 shotgun cartridges

Commending the Brigade’s efforts, Major General Oyinlola urged troops to intensify operations against criminal elements, emphasizing the military’s dedication to restoring peace in Taraba State.

During a briefing with Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, Oyinlola praised the government’s support in enhancing security efforts and instructed the Brigade Commander to ramp up operations against armed bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal groups.

He also stressed the importance of stronger collaboration between the state government and security agencies, highlighting that coordinated efforts are crucial to tackling security threats and ensuring the safety of citizens.
