Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to enhancing security in schools nationwide.
In a statement released by CSC Babawale Afolabi, Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC National Headquarters, the Corps emphasized that children are Nigeria’s most valuable asset, making their protection a top priority.
As part of efforts to strengthen school security, the National Safe School Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC) organized a one-day capacity-building program for State Coordinators and Desk Officers from the North Central geopolitical zone.
Represented by DCG Zakari Ibrahim Ningi, Deputy Commandant General of Technical Services, the NSCDC leadership reiterated that the training aims to equip NSSRCC personnel with advanced skills and strategies to ensure safer learning environments.
Dr. Audi directed state commandants to actively support the Safe Schools Project, emphasizing that continuous training and retraining is essential to keeping schools secure for students, teachers, and surrounding communities.
“Since the Corps’ 2021 vulnerability assessment of schools, we have remained dedicated to improving security measures, ensuring that schools are safer for students, educators, and their host communities,” the statement read.
The NSCDC praised the collaborative efforts of key stakeholders, including the Ministries of Interior, Finance, and Education, as well as civil society organizations like Save the Children International, for their dedication to enhancing school safety.
In his opening speech, NSSRCC Commander, ACC Rabiu Ibn Muhammad, highlighted the need for continuous training in response to new and evolving security challenges, including drug abuse, cultism, and cyber threats.
He stated that experts from various fields have been engaged to share insights and strategies for tackling these threats and ensuring safer schools across the federation.
“Before the first half of the year, additional training sessions will be conducted in other geopolitical zones to expand the reach of this initiative,” Muhammad added.
The NSCDC remains dedicated to strengthening school security nationwide, working with stakeholders to develop innovative strategies that enhance safety for students, teachers, and school communities.
