Presidency to Opposition Leaders: Wait Until 2027 to Test Popularity
The Presidency has advised opposition leaders criticizing President Bola Tinubu to wait until 2027 if they wish to test their public support.
Sunday Dare, Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications to President Tinubu, addressed Atiku Abubakar (PDP), Peter Obi (Labour Party), Rabiu Kwankwaso (NNPP), Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi, urging them to exercise patience instead of “heating up the polity.”In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Dare stated:
“While the President was seeking solutions to Nigeria’s energy problems in Dar es Salaam, some ‘wannabes’ were heating up the polity. This is 2025, not 2027. Let those who want to test their popularity with Nigerians wait for the next election.”
Last week, opposition figures had criticized Tinubu’s APC-led government:
- Atiku Abubakar alleged that the APC paid opposition politicians N50 million each at an Abuja gathering.
- Nasir El-Rufai claimed that the lack of internal democracy has led him to no longer recognize the APC.
- Rotimi Amaechi also voiced concerns about the ruling party’s governance.
