Protest Erupts at FUDMA After Security Guard Allegedly Kills Student

A violent protest broke out at Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina State on Friday after a security guard allegedly shot and killed Sa’id Abdulkadir, a 400-level Agriculture student.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, members of the Joint Task Force (JTF) reportedly opened fire on Abdulkadir after he and a commercial motorcycle rider allegedly failed to stop at a security checkpoint.

The incident has sparked conflicting reports about the circumstances of his death.

  • Some claim he was an innocent student shot mistakenly by a security guard.
  • Others allege he was suspected of being a bandit informant.

Eyewitnesses state that security officers opened fire when the motorcycle carrying Abdulkadir and another rider refused to stop. Abdulkadir was killed instantly, while the second rider sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Angered by the killing, students took to the streets, blocking the Dutsin-Ma-Katsina highway, burning tires, and disrupting traffic to demand justice for their slain classmate.

As the protest escalated, security forces, including police and military personnel, were deployed to restore order and clear the roads.

To prevent further unrest, security has been tightened in the area. The Katsina State Police Command has also launched an investigation into the actions of the JTF officer responsible for the shooting.
