Putin Calls for Restoration of Diplomatic Ties Between Russia and the US
Russian President Vladimir Putin has reaffirmed the need to restore normal diplomatic relations between Russia and the United States, emphasizing that the ongoing expulsion of diplomats by both nations is counterproductive.
Speaking on Wednesday, Putin stated via Russian state-owned media, RIA Novosti:
“The constant expulsion of diplomats from Washington and Moscow does not lead to anything good.”
Putin also expressed openness to a meeting with former US President Donald Trump, while noting that such discussions would require careful preparation to ensure a productive outcome.
His remarks follow Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s concerns about Trump’s stance on Ukraine, accusing the former US leader of operating within a "Russian disinformation space" due to past interactions with Kremlin officials.
Zelensky, who has previously voiced strong opposition to Trump's position on Ukraine, is set to meet with Keith Kellogg, the US special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, who arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday.
