Rep. Jaji Backs Tinubu’s Economic Reforms, Calls for Policy Understanding
Aminu Jaji, a House of Representatives member, has expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, urging Nigerians to understand the long-term benefits of policy changes.
Jaji made these remarks at a press conference on Thursday during the launch of the "One Nigeria Project" in collaboration with the National Association of Former Local Government Council Chairmen in Nigeria (NALGON Emeritus).
According to Jaji, past economic policies have relied heavily on subsidies, but the administration’s goal is to implement sustainable reforms to address current economic challenges.
“We acknowledge the hardship, but the situation cannot be addressed overnight. Reforms, whether in tax policies, telecoms, or electricity tariffs, are necessary steps toward long-term economic stability,” he stated.
Nigerians have been dealing with rising inflation, which reached 34.80% in December 2024, with food inflation at 39.93%. Economists attribute this to factors such as petroleum price fluctuations, energy tariff increases, and a recent 50% rise in telecom service costs.
Jaji emphasized that while the government recognizes the current difficulties, economic restructuring is necessary for future growth and sustainability.
